The Dudh Sagar trek totally reminded me of the Green route trek. It's a wonderful place that everyone must visit atleast once in their life time and recommend during monsoon.
As usual of the eight booked tickets, two guys dropped off at the last moment citing personal reasons.
Finally it was my usual companion Vijay and the rest Bharath, Bikra, Rakesh and Jay.
We boarded the Rani Chennamma from SBC(Bangalore Central) on Friday at around 9.15 and were dropped off at Londa Junction at 7.30am on Saturday. There was an hours time before the Vasco Express would arrive and we quickly utilized this time to have some breakfast and sorted out the luggages.
Mas Vasco arrived as scheduled and we reached Castle Rock Station at around 9.20am and started of our trek a few minutes after clicking some pics.
There were atleast 50odd members for the trek and it was like a trade fair seeing all those like us. There were slight drizzle's all through the way but nothing like i expected. The walk/hike from Castle Rock to our destination DudhSagar was super awesome.
We reached DudhSagar by 3.30pm(we could've made it earlier but chose to enjoy every bit of our hike and the greenery around). Once we came to this place it was like any other picnic spot!! loads and loads of people. All trains on this route stop at Dudh Sagar station and hence the crowd, but still we liked the place.
The roaring magnificent waterfalls made us forget all the cramps on the back due to our extra heavy backpacks. It was simple outstanding to witness the beauty through real eyes. Some of the pictures below:
There is also a small canteen which is operated by the goa tourism here. The canteen wala said they are only on the weekends and only during season. It was drizzling every now and then but no heavy rainfall as such.
Finally after pitching the tents we had yummy noodles and retired early, i slept like a pig in the swamp and realized it was already 8 in the morning.
Took some time to refresh and by 9 the crowd was swelling in large numbers. Herds and herds (Yes HERDS!) of people all over the place and the constant noise of rail engines on the tracks bringing the goods from some place to another.
Our initial plan was to continue the trek till Kulem on day two but called it off since we didn't want to miss our train back to bangalore which was scheduled to leave 7.30pm from Londa Jn. So we spent a lot of time around the waterfalls and clicking pics in all possible ways. There are a couple of good waterfalls around the tracks and it's real heaven to bathe in them...it's like a zillion dollar therapie I must say.
Having spent a considerable amount of time appreciating the falls we boarded the Mas Vasco without tickets to reach Londa. The TT came right at us for boarding the reserved compartments and started yelling at all those who didn't have valid tickets. After much drama we somehow settled it to 200rs for the six of us and it was still a good deal :D, he actually asked for some 2000rs as fine+Tickets+bla bla...
Reached Londa Jn at around 6.45pm and we had dinner from a nearby hotel.
Rani Chennamma left the station around 8 and we reached Bangalore Station on monday 7.15am
All in all it was one of the fantastic trek that one can do in their lifetime. Wish i could do it again and till Kulem or any other possible routes.
Note to others who are planning to do this trek:
-buy the tickets from Kulem to Londa if you're planning like us to avoid getting into situation like us.
-If planning to go till Kulem then start early so you don't miss the train at Londa
-MasVasco reaches directly to Castle Rock/Dudh Sagar but tickets have to be booked much much in advance.
-It's a protected area and hence please don't litter by throwing plastics(there is already enough garbage on the tracks, thanks to the indian railways for not having dustbins in the trains)
Hope it helped somebody out there. Enjoy your trek :)
Cheers!
